DATE WORTHY

by Jeffrey Hilton

Can you imagine people are not being asked on dates because they are too righteous?

One high school girl bore her testimony and told a story about a boy who wanted to kiss her. She told the boy, “My body is a temple and you don’t have recommend.” Imagine if you wanted to date someone and needed a recommend. Why are we all so hard on ourselves?

Part of the three fold mission of the church is to perfect the saints. As a result the saints feel obligated to perfect themselves and those around them. Guilt is one of the most used tools. Because no one is perfect guilt is continually used to motivate us to be perfect. As a result a lot of us feel guilty most of the time.

People don’t want to date someone who makes them feel guilty all the time. Some people aren’t dating because they don’t feel they are worthy to date anyone. Others aren’t dating because no one is righteous enough for them.

Joseph Smith said, “I teach them correct principles and let them govern themselves.” We don’t need to change people that is the job of the spirit.

Our pursuit for perfection will take our entire lives. We won’t be perfect in time for our next date and we won’t be perfect by the time we find our eternal companion. Those we date aren’t going to be perfect neither are those we marry. If we wait until we are perfect to date we will be waiting the rest of our lives.
