LADS, MAIDENS, AND VAMPIRES

Once upon a time there was an evil vampire king. He sent out his vampire warriors into the night to capture the Human race. Some of these vampires would use their powers to put thoughts and images into the minds of young lads and maidens. Jason the Warrior was one of the defenders of the human race. Jason was in love with a maiden named Nancy. Jason and Nancy had plans to soon be married.

One night while the vampires roamed, they spotted Nancy. As Nancy was in her bedchamber brushing her hair, the vampires crept up behind her. Looking into the mirror she saw the hideous faces of the vampires. When she screamed her father and brothers burst into the room. One of Nancy's brothers stabbed a vampire with a stake. Nancy screamed once again as she realized that the vampire had tried to grab her. A bloody battle soon took place between human and vampire until only Nancy and a wounded vampire remained alive. With super human strength the last vampire crawled over to Nancy, dragging his lifeless legs behind him. Nancy was too frightened to move. The vampire grabbed her by the neck and pressed his cold slimy lips just below her right ear. "No!" she shrieked, but it was too late, she could feel the puncture of his teeth as it began to crush her jaw bone. As her blood began to overflow his bottom lip the sun came up. The vampire looked into Nancy's face as though she had betrayed him. With his last ounce of strength he glared into her eyes and began mumbling a whispered chant to her. Nancy slipped into a hypnotized gaze. At that moment the Vampire burst into flames and fell backward onto the cobblestone floor. Nancy stared at the flame engulfed creature with amazement. The flames soon died out and the vampire was no more.

As soon as word of the attack reached Jason he galloped around her property, hoping to find that she was safe. Once he found her he vowed never to leave her side again. Soon the night came and Nancy heard the vampire gang beconning to her. They some how were speaking to her mind, but she could not understand them. She couldn't sleep that night. Their voices were too much of a distraction. She wondered if she might be going crazy. Jason came to her bedside to comfort her and she told him what she was experiencing. Not knowing what else to do they decided to send a letter to a wise man.

This man was renouned for his wisdom and because no one could seem to exceed his wisdom he was simply referred to as the Most Wise. It was hard to reach him though because he lived so far away. From Nancy's village he lived a voyage of forty days and forty nights. Jason sent a messenger on horseback to the residence of the Most Wise.

It tortured Nancy's soul to wait so long for relief. As the nights came, Nancy was no longer safe in her mansion. The Vampires could find her easily. She could not think some nights. The screams of the Vampire gang beconning to her caused her to have trouble even processing her own thoughts. Her desire to find them and join them was irresistable. Nancy's patience soon grew thin and she sought out help from other sources. She had learned of a wise woman who lived just outside the village. This wise woman went by the name of Lady Sooth. Nancy told Jason about her plans to visit the Lady Sooth. Jason refused to let her go. He had heard a rumor that the Lady Sooth had made a pact with the Vampires. The weeks passed by and the Vampire trance grew stronger. Nancy began to consult the Lady Sooth secretly.

One day three strangers came to Jason's village searching for him. They found Jason and told them that The Most Wise had sent them. The strangers consisted of one man and two women. They were all special servants of The Most Wise and had come in answer to Nancy's letter. The servants lodged with Jason that night. They were very impressed with Jason and suggested that he become a servant of The Most Wise as well. The next day Jason took the servants to Nancy's Mansion. When they arrived, they discovered that Nancy was nowhere to be found. The only trace of Nancy was a note she had left behind. Jason picked up the note and read it aloud. The note read: "My dearest Jason, my burdens are too heavy to bear. I know the Lady Sooth is wise and I have gone to seek her counsel." "I must stop her!" Jason cried out. "The Lady Sooth helps the vampires capture mankind," warned the male servant. "You must not go," continued another Servant, "If you do, both of you will be captured." "I must save her," begged Jason, "For she is my love." Before he could be stopped, Jason ran off to the cave of the Lady Sooth. "Surely they shall both perish, " frowned the servant who had not yet spoken.

Jason reached the cave and entered it carefully. He soon realized that when he got deeper into the cave more darkness surrounded him. Jason lit a torch in order to help him see through the dark fog. Finally he found Nancy in a line waiting to receive advice from Lady Sooth. Jason called out to her in the darkness. "Come join me," Pleaded Nancy, " The Lady Sooth is very wise and can bring our lives happiness." "No, Nancy!" Jason cried out, "Can't you see that you are in danger here?!" "This is where I feel most safe," Nancy replied. Jason pleaded with Nancy, but she would not believe that she was in danger.

Suddenly, a boulder was placed in front of the entrance to the cave. The small spot of light that had once reminded Jason of a world outside the cave was now gone. Vampires began to come out of their many hiding places. Those who had come to seek Lady Sooth were now surrounded.

"Help me Jason," screamed Nancy. Jason drew his sword and stabbed a vampire that had a hold on Nancy's leg. The stab had no effect on the vampire and it continued its attack. He was then reminded that to stop it he would need to aim for its heart. With only his torch for light he could barely see it. He had stabbed the creature in a random spot at first because of the lack of light. He would have to think quickly. He waved his torch around to get a better idea of his surroundings. Every person but himself stood covered in chains. The only thing distancing the vampires from him was his torch. The bloodsucking creatures seemed to fear it. If he were to save Nancy he realized that he must first save himself. Vampires pounced at him from every direction. There was no one else for the vampires to overcome. He fought with them and pushed them away from him, but he could not weaken any of them. The darkness seemed to give them renewed strength. These vile creatures were cunning. Each aimed for the torch and tried to put out the fire.

A vampire darted at Jason with a powerful leap. Jason quickly set it ablaze with his torch. The vampires all watched as the burning vampire squealed and rolled around on the floor. They all continued their attacks when they saw that it was healed once it put the fire out. The fire alone could not repel their evil.

Weak from battle, Jason fell to his knees. In his last effort to protect himself he held his sword across his torch in hopes of providing himself with a shield. In the clutches of the deepest despair Jason realized that the servants had been right. He feared that he and Nancy would both perish together. In surprise that he had not been harmed, Jason looked up to find the cave covered in light. He then realized what he had done. He had created a cross using the sword and the torch.. Vampires all around him were consumed in fire.

The flames spread and began to consume both man and Vampire. Jason shuddered as he saw that those in chains could not save themselves from the fire. Jason wanted to free the prisoners from their chains, but letting go of one of his weapons would put all hope of overcoming the vampires in jeopardy. Even if he did try to save them Jason would be overcome by the monsters before he could get one person free. It was sad for him to admit, but he knew it was better for those people to die than to become vampires themselves.

Jason's attention was drawn by a squeal. He was relieved and worried to hear Nancy's voice again. From the glow of the fire he could make out a hunched over figure carrying her on its back. He could see other vampires following after it. Hoping to spare Nancy's life, he didn't point his cross toward them. He allowed the remaining vampires to escape in a line behind the creature carrying Nancy and separated his cross as he followed them through a small underground tunnel. They didn't notice him follow them. Unfortunately as they moved quickly, Jason could not catch up to them.

When he reached the end of the tunnel he saw that he was now in a castle of great size. He saw in front of him the door to a dungeon and walked over to it hoping her might find Nancy inside. As he opened the door a shrill voice surprised him. "Come on in," the voice invited. Entering the room his eyes hurt at the sight of a soulless face. The soulless face introduced himself as King of the Vampires.

The Vampire King stood in front of a prison cell and appeared to be alone. There was a thud that came from the bars of the cell and a familiar voice warned Jason that it was a trap. Jason had come too far to worry about traps. If he died, he wanted to do so defending his love.

Jason removed his sword from its sheath and held it across his torch. It seemed to have no effect. He patiently waited for his enemy to burn, only to find his sword vibrating. The Sword weakened until finally it shattered in pieces on the floor. Jason held his torch straight out in front of him, but the flame began to flicker until it finally went out.

In the darkness Jason could hear what appeared to be the opening of the cell door. This sound was followed by the same door slamming and Nancy's scream. Jason now was relying completely on his ears. He could hear slurping sounds, followed by a puncture sound. In a slobbered laugh the Vampire king declared, "Now she is one of us!" Next Jason could hear the footstep of many approaching him. Without any weapons he stood in shock fearing for his life.

Then something unexpected happened. A pair of doors opened and light burst into the room. "Those doors have not been opened since I began my reign," growled the Vampire King, "Who dares to trespass here?"

"I am The Most Wise," proclaimed the voice, "I have come to reclaim my castle." "These are my servants," continued The Most Wise pointing to a large body of people. "Destroy them," ordered the Vampire King. At that moment Jason noticed that his sword was restored to its previous condition. His torch re-ignited at full strength. Jason formed a cross as he had before. The Servants all made crosses as well, and the room was consumed in fire. Jason was astonished to see that the flames caused him no harm, yet left no remains behind of the vampires surrounding him. The Most Wise ordered the flames to go out revealing what remained. Only two vampires remained, The Vampire King, and Nancy.

The King appeared to be worn out and Nancy had fainted on the floor. "Bind the Vampire King," commanded The Most Wise, "Chain him up and put him in his own prison." The Vampire King was bound and cast into his own prison. From behind the bars he cursed, "I'll get out of here, even if it takes me a thousand years."

"What about Nancy?" questioned Jason to The Most Wise. "She can be saved through an expression of love," answered The Most Wise. Happily Jason grabbed Nancy and passionately pressed his lips against hers. Jason set her back on the ground and watched in awe as she was transformed back into human form. As Nancy regained consciousness she looked up at Jason with concern. She then asked, "Is the Lady Sooth Okay?"

THE END.....OR IS IT?
